Garden. Revive. 3 Weeks.

It's officially 96 hours until we're done with long distance forever!!! Ryan flies in this Thursday afternoon. We could not be more jazzed about being done with it. Now don't get us wrong, we're not haters on long distance (actually we would love to talk to anyone who might be presented with this sort of circumstance) but it is and was HARD stuff. Thank you lord for bringing us through it!! The first thing on our agenda is to watch one of our favorite movies, "Nacho Libre" (a lot of classic quotes about stretchy pants) and to eat some delicious nachos with Ryan's sister Stacey Decker!
Another thing we are learning is about the Lord's ability to revive. Check out Isaiah 1:27. We're just super encouraged in how the Lord will revive his people through HIS righteousness. Revive is defined as "a return to life" and that's just what God does, gives us full and abundant life! Amen! It's nothing we will do but all by the Lord's faithful character and ability in everything. This specifically applies to Ryan's sleep frustrations that we've been praying about. Can't wait to see the Lord REVIVE Ryan in sleep and health. And to see Him REVIVE this broken world in all ways so very soon.
Alrighty and last but not least the garden!! So listen people, our garden is in a high elevation,, high clay compacted, high wind, high sun exposure plot. Not exactly ideal but it's what we get in Golden, CO. No worries though because so far our tomatoes, collard greens, squash, cauliflower, mint and basil have taken off and are thriving!! The cucumber is struggling and so is the parsley :( Basically this is a sweet way to meet some amazing community in our new home and to see what the Lord created in new ways! He is evident even in a little 10 X 10 plot in a community garden-His provision, creativity and originality in being the master organic gardener. Happy Summer everyone! P.S. 3 weeks until we get married!!

Where I am taking Carly!

Hey oh!

This is just a little snapshot of the KAUST campus, one of the many campus mosques, and the Saudi desert. Let me answer a few questions for anyone who may be wondering about the place that I am bringing Carly...

1. Yes, there is electricity in Saudi Arabia
2. No, people don't walk around on camels as their mode of transportation
3. Yes, it's "butt" hot here!
4. And No, Carly doesn't have to wear that head thing... but I know she will want to when we go into the city for cultural respect
5. And finally, yes the security guards on campus cruise around on segways

Without further ado: One of the campus mosques:

Last thought for the day. I am leaving this place in 11 days and I can't even wait. Not because I don't like it here, but because I have an incredible woman back home waiting for me. Saudi Arabia, prepare yourself for C.E.N!!!

33 Days and Counting

It's our first official blog post! We're pumped to get this up and going so that we can update you all on our lives and the whereabouts of the future Deckers! So here's a countdown for all of you who aren't keep track: 3 days until Carly finishes her Junior year at UCD. 15 days until Ryan is Home. 33 days until we get married. about 103 days until we move to Saudi Arabia. WOW!
As we are drawing an end to long distance dating/engagement, it's amazing to reflect back and see the continual provision, goodness, faithfulness and radicalness of the God who we serve and follow! He is worthy and so perfectly unconventional!
In other news we signed the lease for our first apartment in Golden! Carly is living there currently and Ryan will move in after the wedding. It's the perfect location for the research Ryan will be involved in this summer at Mines and for access to the mountains which we love with our whole hearts! We also joined the Golden Community Garden so if anyone is in need of a veggie dinner this summer you're on the invite list to our place!

We're excited to see how and where the Lord guides us this summer. We pray He is at the center of our wedding (June 13th!!), our marriage and our time in Golden! Cheers to the future!

Oh and the pictures you see are from the engagement photo session we had in January with Mandy Erickson (aka the most talented photographer on the planet)
