We're here in the Middle East and loving it! This is an incredible country (with even more incredible hummus) and the people are all so welcoming. Ryan's university, KAUST, has opened up many doors for cool conversations and relationships. Just last night we bowled at the campus bowling alley with people from Honduras, India, Italy, China and Mexico! How cool is that?? The melting pot of people is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we desire to love them well and to be led by God fully.
Arab culture has been a bit of a shock but nothing too overwhelming which is good. Carly wore an abaya (the traditional long black gown) and hijab (head covering with face exposed) for the first time in the Saudi airport. It was not a demeaning or negative experience. It was a great chance to honor the culture we are in and be respectful of the beliefs here. Especially given the month that we came was the beginning of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. This is a deeply religious and traditional month which has been an honor to experience. Plus they throw great parties with the best food you've ever had when they break their fast each evening!!
So overall this campus and country is blew our expectations out of the water. We are seeing ourselves and our marriage refined in the best ways possible. Prayers are so needed and appreciated. Pictures to come next time!
