Gideon 11 Month Update

Age: 11 months old!

This kid is not a baby anymore.  He is a certified, authentic, all out little boy!  He is the absolute most fun he's ever been.  His energy is off the charts, his curiosity is insatiable, and we get a better glimpse everyday of who he is.  This kid likes to "tinker" with electronics or appliances, pulls up on everything he can, has a relatively long attention span as he focuses on one toy at a time, and enjoys routine.  He's enthralled by other kiddos so while he doesn't love huge gatherings, he will snuggle right up to a few friends and be content. He's an absolute joy, a pistol, makes me laugh about as much as his daddy, and has our hearts totally captured.

Weight: 22.3 lbs  Gid has not really gained tons of weight in several months which is normal for breastfed babies.  The doctor isn't concerned, especially as he's started moving more.

Length: 28.5-29ish inches

Sizes (diapers, onesies):  Size 4 diapers, 12-18 month everything else

Eyes:  Blue!  He has been getting more compliments on them lately and then he does a shy, bury his head into mom's shoulder thing.  So sweet.

Hair: RED AND CURLY!!!  It's so cute and soft.  A man at the bank today was smitten with him and commented on how he never sees red-headed babies anymore.  Well, I had a live one right there for him to admire! I adore Gid's beautiful, unique hair.  It's one of my favorite parts of him.

Sleeping:  Still overall a sleeping champ unless he's getting in teeth.  His current schedule is nurse to sleep at 7:15-7:30 pm, sleep until 10:00 pm when I dreamfeed him.  Then last night he got back to his usual schedule of sleeping undisturbed until 5:30 am.  I nurse him then and he's back to sleep for 1.5-2 hours.  He reliably wakes up right around 7:00 am.

He naps 1-1.5 hours twice a day and always at 9:00 am and 1:30 pm.  I'm so grateful for a kid who sleeps.  I really think it helps him feel better, learn faster, and have the energy for exploring more.

Eating: He's really slowed down on the solids. He just has no real interest.  He opens up for a few bites, a max of about 4 at most meals.  Once in a great while he will eat an astounding amount but not often.

His main calories/hydration is nursing.  He drinks from a sippy cup and loves anything protein, salty, or carbs.  He's so happy with salmon, hummus, and avocado everyday all day.  He loves when I blend canned coconut milk (the thick creamy stuff) with peaches and banana.  TONS of calories and fat so I'll do that all day.

New foods he's tried include nectarine, plum, corndog, mandarin orange, vanilla ice cream, mushrooms, basil pesto and a chocolate chip cookie.

Milestones:  This kiddo is so sharp!  He's learning anatomy and at just a few days shy of 11 months can show you where his tongue is when asked.  So sweet!

He crawls fast as lightning, pulls up on everything, and walks along the edges of anything that will hold him.  He reliably knows "ma-ma", can click his tongue, mimics any facial expression and most sounds.  He knows the faces of "his people" and adores them all.  His dexterity is something to be admired.  He has 6 teeth!

Memorable outings:  We actually canceled many of our trips this last month due to his insane/unending sicknesses.  But we have been getting together with lots of friends and are attending a mom's group/bible study that he had a lot of fun at this last week!  Lots of kids his own size to play with.

We have several airplane rides coming up THIS WEEK and next week.  He's going to be a pro.  Also, please pray for us!!

Favorite toys/activities:  Gideon thinks it's so fun to pull up on the washer and play with the buttons and yell into the empty drum.  He likes to pull out tupperware, play with measuring cups and generally dissect our kitchen.  He has one hall electric outlet he's obsessed with and leaves the others alone.  He likes to bee-line to the fridge if it's open and loves a floor fan in our bedroom with all of his heart.

He's happiest when he can crawl or be around a few friends that are his same size/developmental stage.  He loves to knock over lego towers, tinker with wooden toys, play farm, read books on mama's lap, help Daddy get ready, and show off all his skills to his grandparents.  If the toy is on wheels he likes to push it across the floor and gets pretty pumped about any book with flaps or textured parts.

Words/sounds:  Ma-ma" and lots of sounds I don't have enough space to describe.  He likes to click his tongue, smack his lips, clap, and more

Nicknames:   Lou Lee, Lou, Little Love, Giddy Con Queso (from daddy), Giddy Lou Who (from Aunt Linny), Giddy Puff (from Aunt Linny), Giddy Face (from Maggie), Giddy Pantz (from Maggie)
The usuals...Giddy Bear, Giddy Up, Gid, Giddy, Itty Giddy Titty Monster with the tiny hiney, G (from Uncle Clint), Mister, Man Cub

Funny moments: I was ROLLING yesterday when I got a video of this sweet kid showing me where his tongue was when I asked.  He stuck it out so far and it just cracked me up!  He also was laughing at us over the weekend when we quickly stuck our tongues out at him and I got his hilarious belly laugh and giggle on video.  He makes us laugh so much.

Looking forward to:  I cannot wait for this child to walk.  I know it might be harder but it will open back up for us outings like the aquarium, zoo, etc.  Right now he likes those places but is frustrated I won't let him crawl all over the gross public floor.  I also look forward to him getting more into solids so we can regularly start chomping on some yummy new foods and being a little less attached to mama's boobs! :)

Pool Time & Encouragement

Is there anything more summery than a pool day with your friends and a nice big lunch wearing nothing but your diaper?

Not for Gideon!

We had some fun in the sun earlier this week with my friends (that I've known since high school!) Ali & Jayni.  There were a lot of sweet little boys running around...5 total with one more boy on the way for Jayni!

They all wore each other out.

We had a such a blast using floaties and watching the boys splash.  After we had headed home for the day all three of us ladies Voxed one another at about the same time, without knowing the other was sending a message, to just encourage each other in motherhood and our faith.  It was a super uplifting time.

There is nothing better than that!  Plus Gideon napped for 2 solid hours post-pool.  This mama had a full heart Thursday evening.

I'm so grateful today for little friends for Gideon, pools, health, women who love Jesus, encouragement and integrity in friendships, and summer fun.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Tubing & Summering

We have been loving having the Bolts in town.  They are busy with lots to do but we have been able to sneak in a few dinners and summer activities with them this last week.

Earlier we met up with them and Katie's parents who are also in town.  They are staying right on Clear Creek in their super sweet RV so we had dinner with them and everyone tubed (minus me and Gid).

It was a perfect summer-y evening of wine, fajitas, lots of laughing and refreshing conversation.  Such a blast to have summer in such a beautiful spot as Colorado!

Daddy & Gid!  This baby thinks he would like to tube but little does he know that you have to be able to swim and the water is FREEZING!

Gid and Mr. Jan having a litle chat.  And Gideon having some major beard envy

Brrrr!!!!!  That's Ryan to the far right.  He had the biggest grin plastered to his face the whole way down the river

Matt, Katie and Katie's brother Josh who also happened to be in town and got to see them while they are home from Rwanda

I put this baby's toes in the water for a few seconds.  I don't think he was the biggest fan but the water really is super cold still!

Mommy and Gideon enjoying the shade and waving to the tubers!

We just got back from a very fun swimming playdate with friends!  So while Gideon naps off this exhaustion this mama is going to drink coffee, catch up on some chores and maybe even sneak in some reading.  Happy summer!

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

More July Pictures

Gideon James Decker has been crawling and pulling up on things for about a solid month now and he is a WILD man!  He is learning to transfer to different places (like coffee table to couch), he somehow pulls on on the cabinets and then balances there, loves to yell into the empty washer when I leave it open (don't worry I put the control lock on), and is generally into everything.

As much energy as it takes to keep up with him and as much as I ADORE his naps, there is nothing like watching him crawl down the hall at top speed to his train or wooden barn toy.  Or see him pull out measuring cups with such enthusiasm and finding the greatest glee in his cabinet discoveries.

Crawling is a whole new world!

So here are just a few more pictures of our July so far.  We won't be sad when it cools down a bit so we can get back to our evening walks and eating out on the back porch more.

These three are TROUBLE!  Gideon and Poppy are really two peas in a pod and Grumps tolerates their shenanigans.  We are teaching Gideon respect and gentleness with the doodles now.  He must give them space as they eat/drink/sleep and he can never ever pull on their eyes or ears.  He chases them, they lick him, and they all three end up in the same pile all over the house.

My sweet nephew Jay.  We stole him from my sister  and bro-in-law's car when we pulled up to Bonefish Grill for lunch on the 4th of July.  This sweet boy is full of giggles, LOVES to eat, and was up for his mini adventure to Auntie & Uncle's car

This pretty much sums up our life...Gideon standing and holding onto anything that he can.  And then being thrilled with himself over it.

Exhibit B.

Exhibit C.  This was in the waiting room while Ry was at University for his eye.  We were there late into the evening so he had the whole room to himself.  FREEDOM!

There two love each other.  If Ryan is doing it, Gideon wants to do it too

Now this is going to need its own post very soon.  We are in the process of having Ryan go off Remicade--WOW!!  We are working with his doctor but apart from the medicine, controlling his Crohn's will fall mainly to his diet.  We have always eaten healthfully but through recommendation and research we have started Ryan on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) which is tailored to people with Crohn's or IBD.  He eats real, whole foods based around meat, veggies, eggs, nuts, nut butters, and fruits.  No dairy, gluten, soy.  Lots of healthy fats.  There is too much to go into now, but we want to share the VERY positive results we are seeing off Remicade and on this new regime.

We have a laid back week ahead of us filled with friends, family, library trips, reading, crawling, and summer-ing.  You have a great week too!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It's July and Summer is Here!

How it can be July and that means we have a 1 year old next month?!

Our summer has been pretty restful in some ways and unexpectedly intense and exhausting in others.  We battled sickness the entire month of June and had even more crazy medical events last week.

Doctors suspected a detached retina in Ryan last Tuesday after he had on onset of cloudy/blackening vision so we was hurried over to University Hospital where they determined he actually had retinal dialysis instead.  The docs over there performed some crazy painful laser surgery on his eye instead of going to the OR but it was an unexpected twist in our week and poor Ry's eye is still swollen.

Thankfully, we had a better week waiting for us as we attended a friend's wedding from Ryan's Ultimate Frisbee team on Thursday night where Gideon ate his weight in salmon and had black hands and feet from crawling all over the venue.

Also Matt and Katie are visiting from Rwanda!  They work in country with Jibu, a super legit non-profit working to provide clean drinking water and locally owned franchised businesses.  We are happy to have them in town to catch up in person rather than over a phone call 8,600 miles away.

We hosted a friend's get together for them Friday night and all our favorites showed up.  We stuffed our faces on pizza, salad, s'mores and enjoyed a really special night with good people!

I have more pictures to update with soon but here are a few for now:

Saddest boy!  I took away his precious white hanger to attempt a nice photo and total heartbreak ensued.  Have you ever seen such tragedy/sweetness in a bowtie before?

We fancied up for the wedding which was only a 15 minute drive from our house at Mount Vernon Country Club.  The view was epic.

The food was phenomenal!!  Prime rib, salmon, tons of delicious veggies, and an open bar.  They spoiled their guests.

A family shot--look at how handsome my boys are and how stunning that mountain view is!!

A backyard full of our favorite people?  With so many litles running around no one can keep up with them? Yes please!

Our friend Drew snapped a few photos of Gideon which make me laugh out loud.  He looks so grumpy and serious when in reality he just ate way too much pizza and crawled after his new friend Levi who is also 11 months...so the dude was having a sweet night!

That lip!!  How I adore this spunky, complex, thoughtful little red-headed boy.  Plus the good looking dude who's holding him :)

Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
